Time-out!

The baby is napping (YAY!) now and I thought I’d just share this article I read recently. It’s called, It’s Okay to Ignore Your Children and Read This, and naturally, with that title, it caught my eye when a friend of mine shared it on her FB wall.

Many times, I experience ‘mummy guilt’. Wait, I mean, ALL THE TIME, not many times. I know I have it good, by being able to be a SAHM, instead of a FTWM. I am in awe of FTWMs, as I don’t know how they do it. I’m exhausted enough as it is, trying to entertain the baby all day long, while finding time for myself to pee/eat/bathe. I can’t imagine having to go to work, then come home at night to spend time with the baby!

I’m blessed to have a husband who can work from home sometimes, as that means I can get him to sit in front of the baby while I run to the loo for a while. People tell me that it gets easier after a while, but I can’t imagine HOW that will happen. Noah still hasn’t learnt to crawl, so I can leave him in his cot or on his playmat for a few minutes every now and then, but once he obtains mobility, things are going to be a lot more complicated, I think.

Anyway, to all mums out there, I hope the article lessens your mummy guilt a little. I especially love the closing lines,

“… moms deserve time when they’re not tending to kids, and no one has a right to say how moms spend that time — no one gets to decide what’s worthy and what’s wasted.

Moms, the kids are all right. It’s the people trying to convince us otherwise who are in desperate need of attention.”

I spend my time surfing the net, reading, playing games on my iPhone/iPad, and blogging. I don’t get to do all of it, all the time, but once in a while, when I’m lucky enough to get the baby to take a nap, I indulge in one (or more) of these activities. I could be doing something ‘more productive’ of course, but let’s save that for another time.
