When we were based in Melbourne and Adelaide, I was impressed by the reading programmes for babies and toddlers, organised by the libraries there. I’ve been on the lookout for something similar in Singapore, and recently learnt that there is a Jiggle, Read and Rhyme Programme available at selected libraries. The programme is for toddlers aged 1-3, which sounds perfect for Noah, but it only happens once every two months or so at our nearest library, and the timing isn’t suitable for us either.
I managed to get in touch with some librarians, and offered to run a simple, parent-accompanied, reading and craft session for toddlers aged 2-3 years old, since I’ve had quite a bit of fun doing those segments during our playdates. After a few discussions, we figured that it would be good for me to have a trial run of this reading and craft session, just to test the waters, and to see how feasible it will be. It’s going to be tricky trying to figure out the logistics when Noah starts school next month, but I’m really excited about this new “project” of mine!
I shared this piece of news with my Dayre community yesterday, and a few of them have already responded to say that they’ll be there. For those of you who are keen, here are the details:
Date: 30th December 2014, Tuesday Time: 11am to 1145am Venue: Cheng San Public Library 90 Hougang Avenue 10 #03-11 Hougang Mall Singapore 538766 Target Age Group: 2 to 3 year olds Cost: Free THIS IS A PARENT-ACCOMPANIED ACTIVITY!
IMPORTANT Please note that I will be limiting the number of parent-child pairs to 10. The activity room isn’t very big, and because this is my very first time running something like that, I’m not confident of handling a bigger crowd than that. I’ll also be preparing materials for the crafts, so unfortunately, I won’t have extras for walk-ins.
Please indicate your interest by emailing me (growingwiththetans@gmail.com) with the following details:
1. Subject Header:Reading Programme on 30/12/14 2. Your name 3. Your contact number 4. Your child’s name 5. Your child’s age
Closing date for email registration: 26 December 2014, Friday, 0900hours
As registration is on a first come, first served basis, I will be sending out an email confirmation to the first ten respondents.
Noah with the books we borrowed from the library
On a separate but somewhat related note, I’ll be starting a weekly linky for book recommendations every Friday, which will probably start in February, after all the excitement from Noah starting school dies down. I’ll share more about it in another post, so do look out for that post, okay?
