Playdate #18

Our whole family has been hit by the flu bug, and initially, I was quite disappointed at the thought of having to miss our playdate, especially since it was going to be outdoors at Bishan Park.We really like having our playdates at Bishan Park because there is a nice, shaded pavilion, just a short walk from McDonalds, where we can sit during the playdate, and the children can run around during free play and the Big Muscles Activity segment. Thankfully, Noah’s nose was less runny after a few days, and we managed to make it for the playdate.

C dropped us off quite early that morning, so Noah and I spent some time exploring our surroundings, and watching a garden millipede make its way across the pavilion. Noah got bored after a while, so I got some extra exercise chasing him around. He absolutely loves running around, and Bishan Park is perfect for that, I think.

This week, we moved on to a new theme, and it’s one that the children are very familiar with: transportation. Mummy J brought three jigsaw puzzles for the introduction, and got the children to work on them together. I thought it was a good idea, as the children had to take turns, and learn to work together.

Good morning!

I had the sound book version of The Wheels on the Bus, so I got the children to press the buttons so that we could hear the different sounds made. (The link is for a similar book from The Groovy Giraffe, and you can get an additional 5% discount by using the code GWTT at checkout, or 20% off with the code groovyxmas, which expires on 24 Dec 2014.)

Mummy E taught the children how to create a picture of a bus with a rectangle, four squares, and two circles. The mums who have been leading the craft segments recently have all been very organised, pre-cutting the materials, and packing them into individual plastic bags for the kids, making it a lot easier for everyone. The children are still learning how to use the glue sticks properly, and I had to stop Noah from putting glue on everything, including his hands, as he is still very easily distracted. Noah also insisted on pasting the windows of the bus by himself, so his bus ended up with only three windows, instead of four, but I thought it looked quite nice.

Mummy J also brought along a sound book for the Chinese segment, and the children were all very keen to press the buttons. It’s good that we have a small group, as it means that everyone gets a turn when it comes to such interactive bits.

R led us in prayer before snack-time, and I loved how earnest he looked, with his eyes squeezed shut as he prayed.

Mummy S was in charge of Practical Life, and I absolutely loved that she introduced a new station to teach the children how to put clothes onto a soft toy. It’s so nice that we all take turns to lead the various segments, because we all have different ideas and resources, and we can all learn from each other.

For our Big Muscles Activity, Mummy C got the children to take turns carrying cups of water from one point to another. They did this a few months ago, and I think they have definitely improved since then!

JD led the younger children for the action songs again, and the children readily followed his instructions. In fact, after last week’s session, Noah talked about “JD KorKor” at home on a few occasions, and I think he definitely made a very strong impression on all the younger ones.

After the session ended, Noah had a lot of fun running around with E, who also loves running around. The two of them just ran round and round, and I think they would have gone on for a lot longer if we didn’t stop them.

Looking forward to our next playdate as usual!
