Painting at Home

After our first two play dates, it became pretty clear to me that Noah really enjoyed painting, so I decided to let him try painting at home.

I had previously managed to buy the Crayola Washable Kids Paint set of 10 Bottles

* at a recent sale, but just couldn’t quite bring myself to open them. I was honestly dreading the mess that I knew he would create, and kept trying to think of ways to ensure that the mess would be kept at a minimum.

Because it was raining and we couldn’t go out as planned, I thought it was as good a time as any to let him work on his first painting at home. I asked him to choose a few colours that he wanted to paint with, and poured a little of each onto a disposable plastic plate. Then, I used masking tape to tape a sheet of drawing block to our toilet wall, stripped him down to his diaper, and handed him the paintbrush. (I chose to let him paint in the toilet so that it’ll be easier to clean up afterwards.)

All ready to paint

So there you have it. Noah’s first painting session at home! He was rather bothered by the paint getting on his hands (and belly, and legs, and face…) and kept going “Oh no… oh no…” whenever he got more paint on himself. I reassured him that I would wash it all off later, but he didn’t seem convinced, and kept asking me to wash it off immediately. It’s a good thing he wasn’t wearing any clothes while he was painting, or I think I’ll be the one going ‘oh no, oh no’! ;P
