A friend from church bought the gado-gado from Gado-Gado Kartika for our bible study group, and I enjoyed it so much that I got it for C to try as well. I don’t usually eat gado-gado in Singapore, because I haven’t found one that I like, so it was a pleasant surprise to find such a yummy one here in Jakarta.
The nondescript shophouse is relatively easy to spot, thanks to the large banner outside. I went there slightly before lunchtime, and although the shop itself was quite empty, the staff was busy preparing packets of food for takeaway.

I was fortunate enough to be there while one of the ladies was making the peanut sauce, and watched how she diligently stirred the sauce, and added what looked like water, to smoothen the thick paste.
Making the peanut sauce
I think our favourite part of this gado-gado is the sauce, especially because they have a non-spicy version which I love. I drown the vegetables, potatoes, lontong, and keropok in the sauce, and slurp up every single drop! C gets the spicy version, and says it’s really good too.

I asked the lady boss which other dishes were their specialities, and she told me that the lontong sayur, opor ayam, and ketoprak were all popular, so I think we’ll try those the next time. If they’re as good as the gado-gado, I think we’ll really be spoilt for choice.
