Before all of you who know me start laughing hysterically at the idea of me being a ‘beautiful mama’, let me first clarify that the word ‘beautiful’ can mean more than superficial physical appearance. Anyway, I’d like to thank Zee of A Nugget of Joy for nominating me, even though I’ve officially only been a mama for seven months.
Before I became mama to my little man, I was mama to many of my students, or at least, it sure felt that way to me! Of course, I didn’t have to cajole them to eat their meals, nor did I have to change their diapers, but I did my best to impart knowledge to them and more importantly, I cared for them. I called them sweethearts, initially because I didn’t know their names, but the term of endearment stuck because they WERE sweethearts most of the time. I wrote them letters too, letters which reflected upon the events of each term, and gave out these letters with their result slips each term. Yes, I know that this post shouldn’t be about my ex-students but the batch of students very close to my heart will be receiving their A level results later today and I can’t help but think about them now.
Being a pseudo-mama to 35 boys (more actually, if you count all the classes I’ve taught over the years) is very different from being a real mama to one little boy. As much as I loved my job, I love my baby boy even more than I could have imagined. Yes, I get frustrated when he refuses to nap and when he wakes up NINE times in one night (two nights ago, to be precise), but I can’t stay mad at him for long, especially when he smiles at me and laughs when I look at him.
Three Things I Enjoy about Motherhood
1. Knowing that my baby loves me
2. Being able to comfort him when no one else can
3. Cheering him on as he reaches his milestones
I read quite a few other blogs in my spare time when I have the time, usually when I’m nursing the baby, but many of them aren’t mummy blogs, and those that are, have already been nominated for this award, so my ‘nominee list’ is really short!
