There are many things I don’t understand about this whole parenting gig. After six months of insufficient sleep and seemingly endless diaper changes, I still feel as lost as, erm, the fellas in Lost. Here are some of the things I wonder about, especially during those 4am feeds and diaper changes.
#1. Why do babies poop in the middle of the night?
I really dread the sound of Noah pooping at 4am. He used to do this for a while, stopped for a period of time, but just did it again two nights ago. I hope he doesn’t make a habit of it! If you think waking up to nurse a baby is bad, you probably haven’t changed smelly diapers in the middle of the night.
#2. If you have learnt to flip from your back onto your tummy and then back again, why do you get stuck on your tummy in the middle of the night and whine for help getting back onto your back? In the first place, why do you even flip onto your belly while you’re sleeping? Who does that? Sleep on your back or on your side, whichever you prefer, but not on your tummy if you’re not comfortable that way!
#3. Why are babies’ fingernails so sharp?
No matter how frequently I trim his nails, they’re ALWAYS sharp! The poor boy has scratches all over his face and head, while I have them on my neck and hands. Daddy, however, seems fine. Hmmm…
More of these “parenting mysteries” to come. Feel free to share yours with me too! 🙂
